2008 Annual Meeting Recap
Monday, March 24

Nearly 900 members were in attendance at the  72nd annual meeting, held March 24, at Honeywell Ford Theater.

During the meeting, board president Claude Markstahler encouraged the membership to let their legislative representatives know they are concerned that environmental regulations being discussed could cause a substantial rise in the cost of electric energy.

During the CEO’s report, Rob Pearson stated, “The term Global Warming is being overused.  Instead we should direct our discussion toward what is better described as Climate Change. Just at the time new power plants are needed, Climate Change enthusiasts and government agencies are blocking their construction. If the issues surrounding the construction of new power plants cannot be resolved soon, the power supply shortage could cause the cost of electric energy to rise sharply.”

During the business meeting, the members elected two members to serve three-year terms on the board of directors.  Claude Markstahler was elected to represent district #1, and Steve Byerly was elected to serve district #6.

For the seventh year, Wabash County REMC offered $500 scholarships to help our young people attend higher education. Ten names were randomly drawn from the 126 entrants.  This year’s winners include:
