Making an energy efficient investment
in your new home today will mean you'll have a comfortable, quiet
and economical home for life.
Cooperative members who are building
a new home are faced with difficult decisions when considering building
specifications and money-saving factors. Wabash County REMC can
provide members with a Certified Comfort Home guide to assist in
making those decisions. This guide, prepared for us by Association
of Illinois Electric Cooperatives, is just another way of providing
our members with information and construction techniques to live
comfortably and economically in your home.
The book covers construction techniques
designed to control heat loss through radiation, conduction, and
convection. Moisture control with proper insulating methods will
add to the overall comfort level in your home. New construction
standards are provided for floors, walls, and ceilings to minimize
air pockets and allow for the complete insulation of the exterior
walls.
The best time to set up the appropriate
heating, ventilation and air-conditioning for your home comfort
is during the original construction. Additionally, your hot water
heater normally has the second highest energy use and should be
chosen carefully.
Providing our members with the information
and construction techniques to live comfortably and economically
in their new homes is the objective of the Certified Comfort Home
booklet. If you build or have someone build your new home using
the standards and concepts in this guide, we are sure that your
home will provide your family with the best comfort available with
little additional investment and will also be energy efficient.
